Where do Clerkenwell Health clinical trials take place?

One of the most common questions people have when they think about joining a clinical trial is simply: Where will this happen? It’s an important question — you should always feel confident and comfortable with the setting where you may receive care, support and treatment.

At Clerkenwell Health, clinical trials take place in carefully chosen, purpose-designed facilities where your safety, dignity and comfort are central to everything that happens.

Central London — purpose-built facilities

Many of Clerkenwell’s trials are run from specialist clinical research facilities based in London. These are designed specifically for mental-health and brain-focused research, with spaces tailored for assessment, therapy and careful clinical monitoring. This includes Clerkenwell’s dedicated clinic in central London’s medical district, where trials are delivered with your wellbeing front and centre.

This London site operates within a professional clinical environment, with therapy rooms, treatment spaces and dedicated areas for study visits. It’s designed to feel safe and supportive — not medical in the impersonal sense, but clinical in the way that ensures high quality care and oversight.

Doncaster — an NHS-embedded partner site

Clerkenwell has also established what’s known as an NHS-embedded clinical trial site in Doncaster, in partnership with the Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust.

This means trials are delivered within an existing NHS facility that combines the trust, reach and infrastructure of the NHS with Clerkenwell’s specialist research expertise. The Doncaster site brings research closer to communities outside of London, making it more accessible for people living in South Yorkshire and surrounding areas.

This model is an important part of Clerkenwell’s mission to make clinical research more inclusive, easier to access and better connected with routine healthcare.

Other locations — international collaborations

Some trials that Clerkenwell supports — particularly those run in collaboration with global partners — may also involve multiple locations around the world. For example, certain international studies including sites in countries such as Australia, Germany, Poland, Spain and the United States work alongside the UK centres.

Even in these cases, your experience within a trial is always grounded in clear guidance, local clinical support and specialist oversight, no matter where the site is based.

What you’ll feel when you arrive

Whether you’re visiting the London clinic or an NHS-embedded site:

  • You’ll be greeted by trained clinical staff who understand both the science and the human experience of participating in research.

  • The spaces are arranged to prioritise your comfort, privacy, and dignity.

  • You’ll have an opportunity to ask questions and settle in before any assessments or sessions begin.

Everything is set up so you can feel grounded, informed and cared for — not rushed or left to navigate clinical research alone.

Travel and practical planning

When you express interest in a trial, the team will clearly explain where the study is based and what to expect in terms of appointments and visit locations. If travel or scheduling is a concern, the team will talk it through with you as part of your initial discussions.

In summary

Clerkenwell Health’s clinical trials take place in:

  • Specialist, purpose-built facilities in central London, designed for mental-health and brain-focused research.

  • NHS-embedded sites, such as the Doncaster research centre, are bringing care closer to local communities.

  • International trial networks for certain studies, where multiple research locations are involved, all with the same clinical standards and support.

Wherever your trial is based, you’ll be supported by clinicians, therapists and trial coordinators who are there to guide you through the process and ensure you feel secure and informed at every step.
