James completed a PhD at the Maudsley hospital, investigating the role of glutamate in psychosis using single photon emission tomography and proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy. He worked at Imperial College London as a Senior Lecturer, working as co-director of the intercalated BSc in neuroscience as well as continuing research into the role of glutamatergic abnormalities in psychosis. Dr Stone also worked as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London, with a focus on experimental medicine and clinical trials. During his time there he also set up the ketamine clinic at the Maudsley Hospital for patients with treatment resistant depression.
